MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's soccer team saw the Albany State University (ASU) Golden Rams claw out of a 2-0 second half hole on Sunday afternoon at Library Field to earn a 4-2 non-conference victory over the Badgers.
Badger sophomore
Grace Riley of Covington, La., punched in a goal versus the Golden Rams (1-1) in the 40
th minute of play to hand SHC a 1-0 lead at the intermission.
Freshman
Corinna Soto of Louisville, Ky., tallied her first collegiate goal in the 51
st minute to put SHC up 2-0, but ASU would not back down and halved the score to 2-1 with a goal by Aliyah Armijo off an assist by Thuto Ramafifi in the 58
th minute.
A successful penalty kick by the Golden Rams in the 66
th minute by Ramafifi knotted the score at 2-2 as the visitors from Georgia had stormed back from a late two-goal deficit. Ramafifi completed the ASU comeback with a goal in the 83
rd minute and then assisted Armijo on the icing goal in the 84
th minute.
Sophomore Badger keeper
Kira Babiarz (0-2) of Bayonet Point, Fla., faced 14 shots and two corner kicks by the Golden Rams, making eight saves while Maria Bacilio (1-1) of ASU stopped four potential goals versus nine shots and one corner by SHC.
The Badgers (0-2) will next play on Saturday at 7 p.m. (Eastern) at non-conference rival the Georgia Southwestern State University Hurricanes (1-0) in Americus, Ga.
