ALBANY, Ga. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) court volleyball team finished off a perfect run through the East Division teams with a 3-0 (25-8, 25-6, 25-13) victory over the Benedict College Lady Tigers at the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Divisional Crossover hosted by Albany State University (ASU) on Saturday morning.
The early morning start versus the Lady Tigers (6-7, 2-4 SIAC) had little effect on the Badgers as SHC built up a .427 (48-10-89) attack percentage with five aces and 47 assists versus just 26 digs with four blocks for the Benedict defense. On defense, the Badgers had six blocks and 39 digs while limiting the Lady Tigers to a -.105 (12-20-77) attack percentage with two aces and only 12 assists.
Individually, sophomore middle hitter
Kassandra Fairly from Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and junior right side hitter
Bentley Odom from Murphy High School in Mobile both scored 10 kills while freshman setter
Courtney Faulkner of Niceville, Fla., handed out 24 assists. On defense, Odom participated in four blocks as freshman outside hitter
Mikayla Boyer from Covington, La., and senior libero
Cassidi Sterrett of Lee's Summit, Mo., had 12 digs apiece. Sterrett and freshman outside hitter
Natalie Sullivan of Chicago, Ill., also added two aces to their team's numbers on the day.
Spring Hill finished the weekend with a perfect 6-0 mark at the Crossover, not losing a single set and running their current SIAC regular season win streak to 81 matches.
The Badgers (16-4, 11-0 SIAC) return to SIAC West Division play on Tuesday at the Tuskegee University Golden Tigers (5-11, 5-7 SIAC) at the Daniel "Chappie" James Center in Tuskegee, Ala., at 6 p.m.
