Spring Hill earns two more victories at SIAC Crossover Day 2

ALBANY, Ga. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) court volleyball team ran their 2019 conference record to 10-0 with two more victories at the second day of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Divisional Crossover hosted by Albany State University (ASU) on Friday.
 
In the morning session versus the host ASU Golden Rams (5-8, 3-2 SIAC), SHC maintained a .260 (45-11-131) attack percentage with six aces and 42 assists versus 69 digs and just one block by the Golden Rams defense. On defense, the Badgers collected two blocks and 77 digs to limit ASU to a .078 (30-19-141) attack percentage with two aces and 26 assists.
 
Individually, senior outside hitter Payton Gidney of Grapevine, Texas, had 12 kills while sophomore middle hitter Kassandra Fairly from Fort Walton Beach, Fla., pounded out 11 kills. Senior setter Emmarose Neibert of Arnold, Mo., passed around 28 assists with two aces. On defense, senior opposite side hitter Emily Sullivan of Chicago, Ill., made two blocks as senior libero Cassidi Sterrett of Lee's Summit, Mo., had 23 digs and an ace.
 
The evening match with the Tigers (3-6, 2-5 SIAC) of Savannah State University saw the Badgers take the victory (25-5, 25-8, 25-10) in the first meeting between the two programs by building a .425 (37-6-73) attack percentage with 35 assists and a season-high 15 aces. The Wildcats held a -.047 (15-18-64) attack percentage with no aces and just 14 assists. For the Badger defense, SHC racked up 26 digs with four blocks.
 
Fairly and Sterrett collected four aces each while Neibert contributed two blocks and 22 assists with freshman outside hitter Mikayla Boyer from Covington, La., and Sterrett both garnering six digs. Junior middle hitter Bentley Odom out of Murphy High School in Mobile crushed a match-high eight kills.
 
The Badgers (15-4, 10-0 SIAC) will remain in Albany, Ga., on Saturday to wrap up play in the SIAC Division Crossover with a match against the Benedict College Lady Tigers (6-6, 2-3 SIAC) at 8 a.m. (East).
