Badgers move to 4-0 in SIAC play

FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) court volleyball team swept to three victories at the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) West Division Cluster on Friday with a 3-0 (25-4, 25-11, 25-9) win over the Miles College Golden Bears; a 3-0 (25-7, 25-12, 25-16) decision over the LeMoyne-Owen College (LOC) Lady Magicians; and a 3-0 (25-10, 25-10, 25-13) outcome versus the Lane College Lady Dragons in the Exum Center.
 
Versus the Golden Bears (0-2, 0-1 SIAC), sophomore middle hitter Kassandra Fairly of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., completed 17 kills with one block for the Badgers as senior setter Emmarose Neibert of Arnold, Mo., earned 17 assists. Senior libero Cassidi Sterrett from Lee's Summit, Mo., collected 17 digs with three assists. Senior outside hitter Patty Blood of Cincinnati, Ohio, got in the fun with six kills and four services aces while freshman setter Courtney Faulkner of Niceville, Fla., handed out 13 assists for her early career-high.
 
As a team, SHC hit for a .419 (43-12-74) attack percentage with 36 assists and 13 service aces. The Badger defense tallied two blocks and 26 digs as Miles was limited to a -.120 (7-13-50) attack percentage with one ace, two blocks and 18 digs.
 
Against the Lady Magicians (3-2, 0-2 SIAC), the Badgers built a .296 (37-13-81) attack percentage with 11 aces, 27 assists, four blocks and 29 digs. In a balanced offensive attack, junior outside hitter Allison Weimer of Covington, La., had seven kills, senior outside hitter Payton Gidney of Grapevine, Texas, served three aces, and Neibert handed out 14 assists. Junior middle hitter Bentley Odom from Murphy High School in Mobile, Ala., had three blocks.
 
In the day's final event with the Lady Dragons (0-2, 0-1 SIAC), the Badgers built a .477 (49-8-86) attack percentage with eight aces, six blocks and 40 digs while holding Lane to .038 (19-16-80) in attacking with two aces, five blocks and 27 digs. Senior outside hitter Taylor Hurst from Gulf Shores, Ala., had 12 kills and Odom contributed 10 kills as Neibert circulated 32 assists. Odom blocked two shots on defense and Sterrett corralled 19 digs as freshman libero Taylor Fontenelle of Spanish Fort, Ala., Gidney and Neibert each issued two service aces.
 
The Badgers (5-4, 4-0 SIAC) will wrap up play in the SIAC West Division Cluster on Saturday versus the Central State University Lady Marauders in the Exum Center at 8 a.m. (east).
