Baseball Splits with Kentucky State

FRAKFORT, Ky. – The Spring Hill College baseball team traveled to Kentucky on Saturday for a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) series with the Thorobreds of Kentucky State.

Game 1

The Badgers struck fast in Game 1, scoring two runs in each of the first two innings highlighted by a two RBI single by Daniel Rodriguez in the top of the 2nd inning to give the visitors a 4-0 lead.

After KSU cut the lead to one, Spring Hill put the hosts away by plating four runs in the 6th inning to take the game, 9-4.

Rodriguez finished 4-for-5 with three RBI. Mason Bonnaffons was also 4-for-5 and scored four runs.

Luke Dykes (4-0) got the win in 5.0 innings of work. Dykes gave up two earned runs and struck out three.

Game 2

Leading 4-3 entering the final inning, SHC surrendered a pair of runs off a RBI double from Kentucky State's Jay Poullard to fall 5-4 to the hosts.

The Badgers again scored early as Bonnaffons tripled in the 1st inning to give SHC an early lead.

KSU answered in the home half of the 1st inning, plating three runs on two hits and a Badgers error. It would be the Thorobreds only scores until their final at-bat.

With the game tied 3-3 in the 4th inning, Chris George hit a solo home run to left field to put SHC ahead.

George finished 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

SHC (19-13, 11-3) completes their series with Kentucky State on Sunday with a doubleheader beginning at noon EST.
