SHC Drops two to Albany State

MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College baseball team played host to the SIAC leading Albany State Rams on Friday at Historic Stan Galle Field, dropping both of games of a doubleheader.

Game 1: Albany State 8, Spring Hill 0

The Badgers (25-18, 17-5) struggled early, managing just one hit through the first three innings while ASU built a 4-0 lead highlighted by a 2-run home run from Quan Dodson.

SHC loaded the bases in the fourth inning with one out, but back-to-back strikeouts ended the hosts threat to chip away at the visitor's lead.

The Golden Rams would tack on four more runs to take an 8-0 lead before Spencer Miller recorded a RBI single in the sixth inning to break up the shut out.

Grayson Williams went 1-for-2 and had the only extra base hit for the Badgers, a double in the 3rd inning.

Chance Shell (3-3) took the loss for SHC.

Game 2: Albany State 6, Spring Hill 5

The second game of the twin bill saw the Badgers build an early lead, only to lose it late and eventually fall in extra innings, 6-5.

The Badgers jumped out early behind RBIs from Mason Bonnaffons and Luke Wall in the 1st inning.

SHC added another run in the 3rd inning when John Sklopan recorded a sacrifice fly to center field to score Williams.

Bonnaffons and Williams both recorded RBIs in the 4th inning to push the lead to 5-0.

The Albany State offense came alive from there, scoring one run in the 5th and four runs to tie the game in the 6th inning, highlighted by a 2-RBI single from Chasen Roulhac.

ASU earned back-to-back walks to open extra innings and Kyle Walker drove in what turned out to be the game-winning run for the Golden Rams as Spring Hill failed to answer back in the home half of the inning.

Michael Romano (2-3) got the loss in 2.1 innings of work. Romano struck out four and gave up one earned run.
