Badgers Swept in Regular Season Finale

MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College Badgers baseball team wrapped up their 2019 regular season on Saturday at Historic Stan Galle Field when they hosted a doubleheader with the Albany State Golden Rams, losing 4-2 and 5-4.

Game 1: Albany State 4, Spring Hill 2

The two teams held each other scoreless through the first three innings before Spring Hill plated two runs in the fourth to open the scoring.

Brennan Fontenot earned a walk to open the inning and Grayson Williams tripled down the right field line to drive him in. Williams would then score on a passed ball to put the hosts ahead 2-0.

The lead would hold until the sixth inning when ASU manufactured three runs on three hits and a SHC error to take the lead.

The Golden Rams added an insurance run in the 7th inning to take game one 4-2. The win secured a series victory for Albany State.

AJ Fell (1-4) was brilliant through five innings, giving up no runs on four hits. However he surrendered three runs in 2/3 innings pitched in the 6th inning to take the loss. Fell finished with three strikeouts.

Game 2: Albany State 5, Spring Hill 4

The two teams traded jabs early in game two, with ASU plating three runs in their first at-bat, highlighted by a RBI single from Quan Dodson.

SHC loaded the bases in the home half of the opening inning when Williams earned a walk and Fontenot recorded a sacrifice fly to make the score 3-2.

The Badgers then tied the game in the second inning after a RBI double from Mason Bonnaffons.

The Golden Rams doubled to open the fourth inning then benefited from a hit batter and a walk to load the bases. Another walk and a RBI single gave ASU the eventual game-winning runs.

SHC (25-20, 17-7) will now turn their attention to their first ever appearance in the SIAC Baseball Championship Tournament. Final seedings will be determined after this weekend. Play begins Thursday, May 2nd, at Paul Eames Sports Complex and the ASU West Campus in Albany, Ga.
