JACKSON, Tenn. – In a weekend filled with multiple rescheduled dates due to potential weather, the Spring Hill College baseball team was finally able to get a doubleheader in with Lane College on Easter Sunday. Day 2 of the series, rescheduled from April 20 to April 22, was canceled.
Game 1: Spring Hill 3, Lane 2 (8 innings)
Grayson Williams got the scoring going with a RBI double in the top of the second inning to score
John Sklopan.
The two teams played scoreless ball until the fifth inning when the Dragons plated two runs on two hits highlighted by a RBI single from Barry Hamer.
Williams would then tied the game in the sixth with a sacrifice fly to right field.
After a scoreless final frame, the Badgers loaded the bases in extra innings, setting the table for Williams to once again drive in what turned out to be the game-winning run. Williams finished 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Michael Romano (3-2) got the win in relief. Romano pitched 3.0 innings, giving up no runs and striking out three batters.
Game 2: Spring Hill 11, Lane 6
The second game of the twin bill had much less drama, as Spring Hill built a 9-0 lead through the first three innings and cruised to an 11-6 win and series sweep.
Daniel Rodriguez put the Badgers ahead in the first inning with a three run home run.
Hunter Romero made it 5-0 when he singled to center field, driving in two more runs.
SHC pushed four more runs across in the secnd, highlighted by a two-run home run from
Brennan Fontenot.
Mason Bonnafffons went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Romero finished 3-for-4 with two RBI.
SHC (25-15, 17-3) will travel to Pensacola, Florida Tuesday, April 23, for a non-conference matchup with No. 12 University of West Florida. Game time is set for 6 pm.
