Badgers Defeat University of Mobile, 9-7

Mobile, Ala. – The Spring Hill College baseball team made the short drive to Saraland on Tuesday for a midweek contest with the University of Mobile.

Mobile raced out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the 1st inning on three hits. By the end of the 4th inning, the Rams had pushed the lead to 6-1. 

The Badgers answered with three runs in the top of the 5th inning, thanks to a 3-run home run from Daniel Rodriguez to make the score 6-4.

SHC would add another in the 6th on a sacrifice fly from Brennan Fontenot to bring the game to within one run.

A wild 9th inning saw Spring Hill take their first lead of the game after manufacturing two runs two hits but benefiting from a walk, a hit batter, and two wild pitches.

The Rams took advantage themselves in the home half of the 9th, plating the tying run on a Badgers error to send the game to extra innings.

The two teams played a scoreless 10th inning before Chris George earned a walk in the 11th and Grayson Williams came aboard via error. Neil Ring singled to centerfield to score the two base runners and give Spring Hill the win, 9-7.

Rodriguez led the way at the plate, going 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. Ring finished 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs.

Michael Romano (2-1) picked up the win out of the bullpen, pitching 3.0 innings, surrendering no earned runs on two hits.

SHC (13-11, 7-1) will travel to Montgomery this weekend for a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) series with Tuskegee University. Play begins Saturday, March 30th, with a doubleheader beginning at noon at Patterson Field.
