Baseball Ends weekend series with two victories

MOBILE, Ala. – The Badgers baseball team wrapped up a weekend series with Miles College on Saturday.

Game 1

After falling behind 7-1 to the Golden Bears, Spring Hill mounted a rally that included scoring five runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to take the game, 11-8.

Miles built an early lead behind a huge 3rd inning that saw the visitors score six runs on four hits highlighted by a three RBI double from Ryne Benson.

SHC slowly chipped away at the lead, scoring two runs in each the 3rd and 4th innings before exploding in the 6th for five runs.

Down 8-6, the Badgers loaded the bases for Neil Ring who recorded a two RBI single to left field to tie the game.

A fielder's choice from John Sklopan scored Grayson Williams to put Spring Hill ahead for good. Brennan Fontenot supplied two insurance runs with a RBI double to round out the scoring for the Badgers.

Daniel Rodriguez led the way at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored.

Austin Barrios (3-0) got the win in 5.0 innings of relief work. Barrios gave up one run on five hits and struck out three batters.

Game 2

Miles again jumped out to an early lead in Game 2, but the Badgers used timely offense throughout the contest to win the game, 9-2. The win gave SHC a 3-1 series win over their SIAC West rival.

Down 2-0 entering the home half of the 2nd inning, Spring Hill plated six runs over their next three at-bats.

Spencer Miller earned a hit by pitch to lead off the 2nd frame and advanced to second on a wild pitch and to third on a balk before Luke Wall scored him on a sacrifice fly to make the score 2-1 in favor of the Golden Bears.

After Fontenot and Sklopan earned walks in the 3rd inning, Rodriguez singled both runners in to give the Badgers a lead they would never relinquish.

AJ Fell (1-0) got his first win of the season, pitching 3.0 innings out of the bullpen. Fell gave up one hit and no runs and struck out two batters.

SHC (12-11, 7-1) will travel to Saraland on Tuesday for a matchup with the Rams of the University of Mobile. Game time is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
