MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Spring Hill College baseball team traveled to Montevallo on Wednesday for a non-conference matchup with the Falcons.
SHC outlasted the hosts, belting out 14 hits and scoring 13 runs to take down the Falcons, 13-9. The win halted a seven game win streak from Montevallo and was the fifth win in a row for the Badgers.
Both teams went scoreless through the first three innings before Spring Hill broke out in the top of the 4th inning with three runs on four hits highlighted by a two run home run by Mason Bonnaffons.
Brennan Fontenot doubled to open the 5th inning and later scored on a single from Daniel Rodriguez to push the lead to 4-0.
Montevallo answered back in the home half of the 5th, plating three runs on three hits including a home run from Davis Lott to end the shutout.
The Badgers added what turned out to be some much needed insurance in the top of the 9th inning, pushing eight runs across the plate on six hits.
John Sklopan recorded a two RBI double that would prove to be the difference as Montevallo made it interesting in the home half, scoring five runs on the SHC bullpen to make the score 13-9 before the Badgers finally ended the rally.
Taylor Gibson (1-4) picked up his first win of the season in 5.0 innings of work. Gibson gave up three runs on three hits and struck out five.
The Badgers (9-10, 4-0) will host a four game Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) series with Miles College this weekend. Play begins Friday, March 22nd, with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
