MOBILE, Ala. – In the final contest of opening weekend, the Spring Hill College baseball team defeated Missouri S&T 8-4 to draw even in the four game series.
The Miners struck first in the 2nd inning with the aid of a leadoff walk and three Badgers errors to score four runs.
SHC began chipping away at the lead in the 4th with a pair of doubles from Landon Powell and Daniel Rodriguez.
Nicholas Chiasson had a RBI single in the 5th followed by a sacrifice fly from Brennan Fontenot that pulled the Badgers to within one run.
After the first two batters went down in order in the 7th, Fontenot started a 2-out rally that saw seven straight batters reach for SHC. After Mason Bonnaffons tied the game with a RBI single to left field, John Sklopan put the hosts ahead for good when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Luke Wall went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored for the Badgers. Fontenot finished 2-for-4 with a RBI, run scored, and a double.
Luke Dykes (1-0) recorded the win in 5.0 innings of shutout relief.
The Badgers (2-2) will travel for the first time this season next weekend when they head to St. Petersburg, Fla. for a weekend series with Eckerd College. Action begins on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at noon EST.
