MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's soccer team suffered a 4-3 Gulf South Conference (GSC) loss to the University of Montevallo Falcons on Sunday afternoon at Library Field.
Sidney Spivey of SHC put the Badgers up 1-0 over the Falcons (5-2-2, 3-1 GSC) off an assist by
Kylee Harrell in the 21
st minute of play, but Montevallo answered with a header goal by Romee Contreras coming off an assist by Kira Bochard in the 34
th minute.
The second period saw the Badgers go ahead 2-1 in the 65
th minute as Spivey lifted a ball into the keeper's box that
Libby Durrough got her head on for the tally. Not to be outdone, Samara Lino of the Falcons knotted the game back up at 2-2 with an unassisted goal in the 73
rd minute.
Montevallo took the lead in the 79
th minute when Lino scored her second goal with an assist from Tylor Ring. Just 10 minutes later, the Falcons added a fourth insurance score off the foot of Espy Sanchez following a pass from Contreras.
A second goal from the Harrell-to-Spivey (this time
Morgan Spivey) connection for SHC in the 90
th minute posted the final 4-3 score in favor of the visitors.
Freshman SHC keeper
Hannah Linss (0-2) of River Ridge, La., made 12 saves against 28 shots and 10 corner kicks by Montevallo. At the opposite end of the field, Judith Perez-Bayon of the Falcons had one save versus four shots and two corner attempts by the Badgers.
The Badgers (1-7, 0-4 GSC) will travel to Cleveland, Tenn., on Friday to face the 5
th-ranked Lee University Flames (5-2, 1-1 GSC) in a conference match at Lee Soccer Field at 7 p.m. (east).
