MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's soccer team endured a 5-1 Gulf South Conference (GSC) loss to the 18
th-ranked Lee University Flames on Friday night at Lee Soccer Field.
SHC stunned the Flames (7-2, 3-1 GSC) with a goal into the lower left corner just 22 seconds into the match by sophomore forward
Olivia Odimegwu of Spring Hill, Tenn., but Lee recovered to knot the game at 1-1 before the intermission when Riley Engels put the ball into the upper left-hand corner in the 30
th minute.
Riley Henry of Lee would add the second and third goals for the Flames off assists by Devin Healy in the 48
th and 57
th minutes. Julia Kaset tacked on the fourth goal for Lee in the 66
th minute and Emma Higgins added the fifth goal in the 86
th minute.
Freshman SHC keeper
Hannah Linss (0-3) of River Ridge, La., made nine saves against 27 shots and 10 corner kicks by Lee. At the opposite end of the field, Taylor Green of the Flames made no saves in 74 minutes against two shots and no corner attempts by the Badgers while Mollie Wheeler finished the final 16 minutes of game time in-goal and with no action.
The Badgers (1-8, 0-5 GSC) will visit Rome, Ga., on Sunday to take on the Shorter University Hawks (0-8, 0-3 GSC) in a conference match at Ben Brady Field at 1 p.m. (east).
