JACKSON, Tenn. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) court volleyball team swept to three more conference victories at the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) West Division Cluster hosted by Lane College on Friday by taking a 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-15) victory over the Kentucky State University (KSU) Thorobretts; a 3-0 (25-9, 25-9, 25-9) win over the Lady Magicians of LeMoyne-Owen College (LOC); and a 3-0 (25-10, 25-11, 25-11) decision over the Miles College (MC) Golden Bears.
In the early morning match with KSU, SHC held the Thorobretts (13-9, 10-2 SIAC) to a .181 (38-17-116) attack percentage, allowing no aces and 37 assists while making three blocks with 54 digs on defense. The Badgers established a .259 (45-15-116) final attack percentage with five aces and 43 assists against six blocks and 48 digs by KSU.
Individually, junior right side hitter
Bentley Odom out of Murphy High School in Mobile, Ala., and junior outside hitter
Allison Weimer of Covington, La., each tallied 12 kills while sophomore middle hitter
Kassandra Fairly of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., had eight kills, two blocks and an ace. Senior setter
Emmarose Neibert of Arnold, Mo., passed around 37 assists. On defense, senior libero
Cassidi Sterrett of Lee's Summit, Mo., had 15 digs while senior outside hitter
Payton Gidney of Grapevine, Texas, added 14 digs.
Next, the Badgers defeated the Lady Magicians (9-9, 5-6 SIAC) by holding their opponents to a .012 (22-21-85) attack percentage and allowing just two aces and 22 assists. On offense, the Badgers smacked down a .356 (39-8-87) attack percentage with four aces and 34 assists. SHC totaled six blocks and 37 digs on defense.
Odom again paced the offense with 11 kills while freshman setter
Courtney Faulkner of Niceville, Fla., distributed 16 assists with three blocks. Freshman outside hitter
Mikayla Boyer of Covington scooped in nine digs and senior opposite side hitter
Sarah Senft of Spring Grove, Pa., collected two aces and four digs.
In the final match of the day, SHC kept up the pressure, holding the Golden Bears (4-16, 2-13 SIAC) to a .160 (23-11-75) attack percentage with one ace and 19 assists while the Badgers built a .441 (47-6-93) attack percentage with eight aces, 41 assists and 36 digs.
Fairly racked up 13 kills while freshman
Taylor Fontenelle of Spanish Fort, Ala., served up four aces and Neibert dished out 28 assists. Boyer added 12 digs to her day's effort.
The Badgers (21-4, 15-0 SIAC) will remain in Jackson, Tenn., overnight to face the Central State University Lady Marauders (7-12, 6-5 SIAC) at 8 a.m. on Saturday followed by the host Lane College Lady Dragons (10-4, 6-3 SIAC) at 10 a.m. in J.F. Lane Gymnasium.
