Valdosta, GA – The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 Gulf South Conference (GSC) decision at Valdosta State University on Friday night.
Valdosta struck with the game winner just over one minute into the contest as Ashley Lewis' score quickly put SHC in an early 1-0 hole. Lewis would add to the Valdosta lead when she scored her second goal in the 34
th minute to stake the hosts to a 2-0 halftime advantage. Valdosta would tack on an insurance goal in the 51
st minute for the final 3-0 margin.
Valdosta outshot the Badgers 20 -5 overall and held a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal as well. The Badgers were held without a shot in the second period. Neither team had many chances from the corners as Valdosta took 2 corners and SHC none.
HP Fluharty went the full 90 minutes in goal for SHC and made 4 saves against 10 shots on goal.
"I thought we played a great possession game today," said Head Coach
Allison Whitworth. "Unfortunately, we started slow and didn't capitalize on our chances. We still need to capitalize in the box, especially on the road. I thought Meggie Van den Oever did a better job of controlling the midfield rhythm for us tonight."
The Badgers (1-5, 1-2 GSC) will travel to Carrollton, GA to take on the University of West Georgia in another GSC match on Sunday, September 23 at 1:00 PM.
