Wilberforce, Ohio – The Spring Hill College (SHC) volleyball team opened its SIAC regular season with a 3-0 victory over Lane College on Friday morning. The Badgers claimed the victory by scores of 25-15, 25-11, and 25-15.
The Badger offensive attack was led by junior
Taylor Hurst (10 kills), sophomores
Allison Weimer and
Bentley Odom (7 kills each), and junior
Sarah Senft (6 kills). As a team, the Badgers produced a scorching .481 attack percentage keyed by the solid setting performance of junior
Emmarose Neibert who dished out 33 assists. Neibert spread the ball around as 12 Badger attackers registered kills in the match.
The Badger defense was solid along the back row as junior
Cassidi Sterrett had 6 digs while both junior
Sarah Senft and senior
Randi De'Armitt had 4 digs apiece. SHC's defense limited Lane to a .232 overall attack percentage but held the Dragons below .200 in the first two sets against the Badger starters.
"This was a good start to SIAC play" said Head Coach
Peggy Martin. "We got to get a lot of players into the match. It was a good opportunity to develop our depth and spread out the repetitions given we have three matches today."
The Badgers (5-3, 1-0 SIAC) will continue play at the SIAC West Division Cluster hosted by Central State University this afternoon when the take on LeMoyne-Owen College at 1:00 p.m. followed by Miles College at 3:00 p.m. The Badgers will close out the weekend on Saturday with matches against Central State University at 1:00 p.m. and Kentucky State University at 3:00 p.m.
