Mobile, AL – The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's soccer team home on Sunday and came away with a thrilling come from behind overtime win 2-1.
Lee lead 1-0 after a fiercely contested first half off a goal in the 20
th minute following a defensive passing miscue by a Badger defender on a pass back to the keeper that left the goal wide open for a Lee attacker. The two teams slugged away at each other to even results. Lee outshot SHC 4-3 but SHC took 4 corners to Lee's 3.
Spring Hill netted the equalizer in the 51
st minute when
Alex Lipinski took a pass in traffic at the top of the box and beat the Flame keeper.
Axel Forslund and
Tilman Schober set up the score when Forsland served a ball into the box and Schober one touched the pass to Lipinski to create the advantage. Neither team could capitalize the rest of the way and the teams headed to overtime.
In the overtime, SHC wasted little time earning a free kick from the left side. Off the free kick,
Tilman Schober hit a perfectly placed ball to
Matthew Moreno who scored the golden goal on a backwards header to the back lower corner.
"It was a great team win today," said Head Coach
Steve Wieczorek. "Once again we showed some tremendous resiliency. To come back from a goal down in the second half to win in overtime against a great opponent is a testament to our guys."
The Badgers (9-1, 5-0 GSC) will continue their 3 game home stand next Friday, October 12 against Alabama Huntsville at 1:00 PM. They will play West Alabama on Sunday, October 14 at 3:30 PM.
