Mobile, AL – The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's soccer team remained at home on Friday and came away with a thrilling 2-1 victory.
SHC scored the first goal of the contest in the 29
th minute when
Diogo Sousa finished a nice goal from six yards out off of assists from
Haukur Bjornsson and
Vassil Kokali. UAH found the equalizer in the 34
th minute to knot things at 1-1 heading into the intermission.
Neither team could generate many dangerous chances for the majority of the second period. The defensive battle looked like it might be headed to overtime until
Alex Lipinski netted the game winner in the 88
th minute with an unassisted goal to propel SHC to the victory. In what proved to be a very evenly contested match, both team took 8 shots and 5 corners.
"What an exciting and resilient performance once again from the guys," said Head Coach
Steve Wieczorek. "I couldn't be more proud of how we defended and adapted to tactical changes within the game from our opposition. In the end, we kept our nerve and found a way to win."
The Badgers (10-1, 6-0 GSC) will continue their 3 game home stand when they play West Alabama on Sunday, October 14 at 3:30 PM.
