Rome, GA – The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's soccer team traveled to Rome, GA and came away with a resounding 7-0 victory on Thursday afternoon.
Following two straight games without scoring a goal in the first half, the Badgers unleashed the scoring machine earlier against the Hawks.
Tilman Schober netted the game winner just 11 minutes into the contest off assists from
Zach Witt and
Konstantinos Varesis.
Cyril Giraud followed with another goal just 5 minutes later with Schober and
Matthew Moreno getting assists.
Donte Oliver scored the first of his two goals on the day in the 33
rd minutes to stake the Badgers to a 3-0 halftime cushion.
Spring Hill continued the hot scoring hand in period number two as
Zach Witt and
Diogo Sousa each scored in the first 15 minutes of the half. Oliver and Giraud each scored their second goals of the day in the 7
th and 85
th minutes respectively. For the match, the Badgers tallied 7 goals and 13 assists. Oliver and Giraud each had 2 goals while Moreno had 3 assists and
George Brown had 2.
SHC outshot Shorter 20 – 8 overall with a 13-3 advantage in shots on goal. Both teams attempted 2 tries from the corners.
Alessandro Erdelyi went the distance in goal and made 3 saves in earning the shutout victory.
"It was a great team win today," said Head Coach
Steve Wieczorek. "We played some attractive soccer, creating and scoring a few excellent goals. A few more guys chipped in on the score sheet today which will only build confidence as we hit a vital home stand."
The Badgers (8-1, 4-0 GSC) will now return home for a matchup up with Lee University on Sunday, October 7 at 3:30 PM.
