Women's Soccer Falls to Montevallo

Montevallo, AL The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's soccer team dropped a 4-0 Gulf South Conference (GSC) decision at the University of Montevallo on Friday night.

Montevallo scored what would prove to be the game winner just six minutes into the contest as Romee Contreras score put SHC in an early 1-0 hole. The Badgers would withstand the early goal and played solid soccer for the remainder of the half but couldn't capitalize on any scoring chances to even the score.

Unfortunately for the Badgers, Montevallo put the game away over a two minute stretch early in the second half with three quick goals. Allye Darnell scored back-to-back goals within the 54th minute of play before Contreras connected again in the 56th minute for the final 4-0 margin.

Valdosta outshot the Badgers 28 -4 overall and held a 14-1 advantage in shots on goal as well. Montevallo outshot the Badgers from the corners as well earning 6 corner opportunities and limiting SHC to none. HP Fluharty went the full 90 minutes in goal for SHC and made 10 saves in the loss.

"We played 80 minutes of a great disciplined game," said Head Coach Allison Whitworth.  "Kylee Harrell stepped into a leadership role for the back line and made a difference in the game. We will continue working to manage the ups and down of games. Olivia Hall played another 90 minutes in the back line of consistent work and tactical movement. Looking forward to our rebound on Sunday vs AUM."

The Badgers (1-7, 1-4 GSC) will travel to Montgomery, AL to take on Auburn University Montgomery in another GSC match on Sunday, September 30 at 1:00 PM.
