Montgomery, AL – The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's soccer team traveled to Montgomery and ended their GSC road trip with a 2-0 win over AUM.
Neither team was able to capitalize on its first half chances as the score was knotted at 0-0 after the first 45 minutes of action. AUM outshot SHC 5-2 and held a 4-2 advantage in corners in a defense dominated first period. It would be a different story in the second period as SHC was able to capitalize on its chances against the Warhawk defense.
Spring Hill gained the upper hand in the 60
th minute when
Cyril Giraud netted his second goal of the weekend off assists from
Diogo Sousa and
Luca Carrese. The Badgers added an insurance goal just a few minutes later when Carrese scored off assists by
Zach Witt and Giraud. SHC then held form on the defensive end to thwart any chance of an AUM comeback to preserve the shutout. Alessandro Erdyli took the victory in goal and made 4 saves against 13 Falcon shots.
"Today was always going to be a difficult game as the 2nd game of an away weekend," said Head Coach
Steve Wieczorek. "Good teams find a way to get the job done and we are certainly on the way to being a good team. I'm especially proud of our guys for keeping a clean sheet and the maturity that we showed throughout the game."
The Badgers (7-1, 3-0 GSC) will now travel to Rome, Georgia to take on the Shorter University Hawks in a Thursday afternoon match at 4:30 PM on October 4 before returning home for a matchup up with Lee University on Sunday, October 7 at 3:30 PM.
