MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Spring Hill College women's soccer team opened Gulf South Conference play with a 1-0 victory over Christian Brothers University Saturday afternoon at Signaigo Field.

The Badgers and Buccaneers played to a scoreless draw through the opening 45 minutes, with both teams recording two shots in the first half.

Spring Hill broke through in the 75th minute when Julie Cooke scored her first goal of the season to give the Badgers the lead. Cooke finished with two shots, both on target, in the victory.

The Badgers' defense held the lead over the final 15 minutes, with goalkeeper Ava Bell making three saves to earn her first shutout of the season.

Christian Brothers finished with a 6-4 advantage in shots, but Spring Hill controlled the corner-kick battle, 9-1. The Badgers also held the Buccaneers without a corner kick in the opening half.

The win moves Spring Hill to 2-2-1 overall and 1-0 in GSC play, while Christian Brothers falls to 1-4 and 0-1 in conference play.
