PENSACOLA, Fla. -- The Spring Hill College women's volleyball team picked up a pair of sets over the weekend but dropped both of its matches at the UWF Field House, falling to Tampa 3-1 Friday before dropping a 3-1 decision to Florida Southern on Saturday.
The Badgers opened the weekend against Tampa, dropping the first two sets 25-16 and 25-23 before responding with a 25-21 win in the third. Tampa closed out the match with a 25-10 fourth-set victory.
Samaya Hennessy led the Badgers with 12 kills, while
Claire Hayes added 10 and
Quinn Thurman finished with seven. Hayes and
Reece Varden each recorded six blocks, while
Ashlyn Whiteside led Spring Hill with 13 digs.
Grace Cahill finished with 14 assists and
Cassie Creech added 13.
Spring Hill returned to the court Saturday against Florida Southern and took the opening set 25-23. The Mocs answered by taking the next three sets, 25-16, 25-17 and 25-22.
Hayes led the Badgers with 14 kills while hitting .464, while Hennessy added 11 kills. Whiteside recorded a team-high 19 digs, with Thurman adding 16. Creech finished with 16 assists and Cahill added 13.
Harper Howell led the Badgers with four blocks, while Hennessy added three.
The two losses moved Spring Hill to 1-7 on the season. The Badgers will return to action Friday, Sept. 18, when they face Benedict College at 1 p.m. CST at the Jones Brothers HPER Complex in Albany, Ga., as part of the first SIAC Crossover.
