Badgers Fall to Christian Brothers in GSC Opener

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Spring Hill College men's soccer team dropped its Gulf South Conference opener Saturday afternoon, falling 3-0 to Christian Brothers University at Signaigo Field.

The Badgers and Bucs played to a scoreless first half, but Spring Hill was forced to play a man down for the final 66 minutes after receiving a red card in the 24th minute.

Christian Brothers broke through early in the second half, with Lauri Orava scoring in the 51st minute off an assist from Matthias Ran De Berg.

The Bucs added a second goal in the 75th minute when Elliot Whalley found the back of the net off an assist from Daiki Ebihara. Alessio Anichini added the final goal with one second remaining in regulation to give Christian Brothers the 3-0 victory.

Spring Hill managed three shots on the afternoon, with Gabriel Lebron recording two and Tommy Wortham adding one. Lebron also put one shot on goal.

Jose Lozano Soto made five saves in goal for the Badgers, while Christian Brothers goalkeeper Grant Clothier made one save to preserve the shutout.

The Bucs finished with an 18-3 advantage in shots and a 9-1 edge in shots on goal. Both teams earned six corner kicks.

The loss moves Spring Hill to 0-3-1 overall and 0-1 in GSC play. Christian Brothers improves to 3-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

The Badgers return to action Wednesday, Sept. 16, hosting Auburn University at Montgomery at 3:30 p.m. at Library Field.
