Spring Hill College Track & Field Earns NCAA All-Academic Team Honors; Nastasi Named Individual All-Academic

MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College men's and women's track and field programs were recognized for their academic achievements as both teams earned NCAA Division II All-Academic Team honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), while senior sprinter Grant Nastasi was named an NCAA Individual All-Academic honoree.

The Badgers' women's outdoor track and field team earned All-Academic Team recognition after posting a 3.26 cumulative team grade-point average, while the men's outdoor track and field team recorded a 3.16 cumulative team GPA to earn the same distinction.

In addition, Nastasi became the latest Badger to earn individual NCAA All-Academic honors following a standout senior season. The Covington, La., native closed his Spring Hill career as one of the most decorated sprinters in program history, setting school records in the men's 100-meter dash (10.31 seconds) and 200-meter dash (21.30 seconds) while qualifying for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

"This is a great honor for our women's and men's track and field teams," said Spring Hill Head Track & Field Coach Craig McVey. "Our number one program goal is to have everyone excel academically and graduate from Spring Hill College. There are numerous, long-standing NCAA Division II programs who don't field NCAA All-Academic Teams.

"We're fortunate to have the young people in our program that we do. They don't lose sight of the main reason they are in college."

McVey also praised Nastasi's individual accomplishment following a historic career.

"For Grant to achieve individual NCAA All-Academic status is a great finish to a great career," McVey said. "We've had teams and individuals achieve NCAA All-Academic previously, but the process never, ever gets old. A great day today."

To qualify for NCAA All-Academic Team honors, a program must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale among all student-athletes listed on the NCAA squad list for indoor and/or outdoor track and field.

Individual NCAA All-Academic honorees must achieve a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25, finish the season ranked among the top 50 individuals on the USTFCCCA descending order lists, remain academically eligible for the NCAA Championships, and compete at the NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championships during the respective season.
