Spring Hill College Names Alejo Binaghi Head Women's Soccer Coach
MOBILE, Ala. – Spring Hill College Director of Athletics Joe Niland announced the hiring of Alejo Binaghi as the next head coach of the Badgers women's soccer program.

"Alejo is an upcoming young coach who has been developing under some of top soccer coaches around." Joe Niland said, "He has great experience coaching some of the best young women on the gulf coast."

Binaghi arrives at Spring Hill after building a coaching career along the Gulf Coast while also establishing himself as one of the most decorated players in University of Mobile men's soccer history. Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Binaghi came to the United States on a soccer scholarship and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in business management and a master's degree in leadership and communication.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to lead the women's soccer program at Spring Hill College," Binaghi said. "The values of the college align closely with my own, and I feel prepared to take this next step in my coaching career. I am excited to work hard for our student-athletes and help continue building a successful program."

Since arriving in Mobile, Binaghi has steadily climbed the coaching ranks with Union 10 FC. Beginning as an assistant coach in 2018, he eventually assumed head coaching responsibilities within the club's academy system and worked with athletes ranging from the youth to high school levels. During his time with the organization, he coached multiple Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) teams and most recently served as head coach of Union Club's Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) team during its inaugural season. He also spent the spring as an assistant coach for the St. Paul's Episcopal School boys varsity soccer team.

While Binaghi's coaching experience spans multiple levels of the game, his philosophy centers on effort, accountability, and commitment to teammates. He believes success begins with working hard without the ball and creating an environment where players can enjoy the game while competing at a high level.

"Working hard when we do not have the ball and enjoying when we do have it is important," Binaghi said. "I want players who are committed, reliable and respectful to their teammates."
Binaghi said he plans to build upon the culture established by former head coach Samantha Thomsit while continuing to elevate the program's competitiveness. His goal is to grow the foundation already in place and position the Badgers to compete for championships while maintaining a culture players are proud to represent.

Student-athletes can expect a detail-oriented approach from their new head coach. Binaghi emphasized preparation and involvement in every aspect of the program, with a focus on helping each player maximize their potential both on and off the field.

Before beginning his coaching career, Binaghi enjoyed a standout playing career at the University of Mobile. He earned national recognition in 2021 after being named NAIA National Player of the Year and a First-Team NAIA All-American while helping lead the Rams to the NAIA National Championship match. During his final collegiate season, he scored 24 goals and added six assists while earning Southern States Athletic Conference Player of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year, and Golden Boot honors. He was also named a Second-Team NAIA All-American in 2020.
