Lott's Strong Performance Guides Spring Hill to Victory

MOBILE, Ala. – Starting pitcher Garrett Lott had another strong performance as the Spring Hill College baseball team took game one over conference foe LeMoyne-Owen College, 9-3, tonight to open the weekend series. The Badgers are now 23-13 and 18-4 in the SIAC, while the Magicians fall to 15-22 and 6-16.

The Magicians jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Badgers in the bottom of the second tied the game on a sacrifice fly from Andrew Juez that drove in John Webb.

Spring Hill in the bottom of the third grabbed its first lead of the game, and it started when Angel Rivera singled to left and then stole second to start things off. He later scored off Eli Benoit's single to put the Badgers in front, 2-1.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Badgers added a run when John Webb tripled and tagged up to score to make it 3-1 when George Bode hit a sacrifice fly to center.

The Badgers broke the game open in the fifth as they plated three runs on a pair of hits and an error. Benoit lead-off with a walk but was out at second when Alex Roux hit into a fielder's choice to reach first. Roux came around to score when Jordan Black belted a two-run home run to left-center to push the lead to, 5-1. Following a pop-up to the first baseman, Webb reached first on a fielding error by the shortstop to keep the inning alive. He then stole second and later scored off Gavin Moran's RBI double to left field to make it 6-1 before the inning ended.

Spring Hill added a run in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings, while LeMoyne-Owen added a pair in the seventh inning.

The Magicians threatened in the eighth and ninth innings but were unable to score as the Badgers went on to secure the victory.

Lott improved to 5-0 on the season. He allowed one run (unearned) on six hits over five innings of work, while striking out seven.

The Badgers tallied five hits between five different hitters tonight.

Black finished the night going 1-for-4 with two RBIs, two runs scored, and a home run, while Webb was 1-for-3 with a triple and a team-high three runs scored.

Moran recorded a double and a pair of RBIs, while Rivera went 1-for-2 and scored a pair of runs.

Spring Hill is back home tomorrow when it hosts the Magicians for a doubleheader. Game one starts at noon central with game two to follow.
