Sandy Badgers Move to Silver Bracket at AVCA Championships
GULF SHORES, Ala. - Spring Hill College's beach volleyball team split its two matches Saturday at the AVCA Small College Beach Championships, shutting out Emmanuel, 3-0, before dropping a 3-0 decision to Tampa at the Gulf Shores Public Beaches.

Eighth-seeded Spring Hill (12-14) started its day with a sweep of No. 17-seeded Emmanuel (10-26), only allowing more than 15 points in one of six sets. Claire Hayes and Alessandra Lane teamed up for a 21-14, 21-12 win over Faith Kelly and Brooke Lee in the No. 2 match, the Sandy Badgers' No. 3 pair of Lillie Casey and Ashlyn Whiteside knocked off Maisy Farrow and Kaleigh Moraweitz, 21-7, 21-17, and at No. 4, Spring Hill's Reagan Huff and Landry Tea beat Madelyn Banton and Lauryn Kroening, 21-15, 21-11. The Sandy Badgers are now 2-0 all-time against Emmanuel.

Against Tampa - the No. 1 seed in the tournament and defending national champions - the Sandy Badgers did grab one of the seven sets, but the Spartans (22-9) grabbed the three match wins they needed to finish Pool "A" play with a perfect 4-0 record. Spring Hill's No. 1 team of Jaylyne Bell and Marissa Peck battled Hailey Wolfe and Neveah Wolfe before falling, 12-21, 21-11, 15-12, Hayes and Lane lost to Tampa's Tess Schrenger and Angel Williams, 21-9, 21-13 at No. 2, and the Spartans' No. 5 pair of Jordan Berglin and Samantha Ostrander beat Monica Vargo and Mia Johnson, 21-8, 21-11. Tampa now leads the all-time series against Spring Hill, 5-2.

By virtue of going 3-1 in pool play and finishing second in Pool "A", the Sandy Badgers - who had a 4-1 run stopped with the Tampa loss - will be in the Silver Bracket for championship bracket play on Sunday. All teams will play two matches on Sunday, and Spring Hill will first take on Palm Beach Atlantic (20-15) at 9:10 a.m. Palm Beach Atlantic leads the all-time series, 3-2, having won the last three meetings between the two teams. Spring Hill's last win in the series came in 2022, when the Sandy Badgers got past the Sailfish, 3-2. The winners and losers of the 9:10 a.m. match will then meet the winners and losers of Carson-Newman and Colorado Mesa at 11:30 a.m.
