MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring College baseball team tallied 14 hits to pick up a 15-2 run-rule victory over conference foe Tuskegee University tonight at home. The Badgers are now 11-9 and 8-2 in the SIAC, while the Tigers fall to 7-10 and 5-4 on the year.
Following a scoreless first, Spring Hill plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. It started when
Gavin Moran walked on five pitches. Following up a popout to third, Moran advanced to second on a balk.
Reggie Cooper dropped a single into center to put runners on the corners. Both runners pulled off a double steal that allowed Moran to score and Cooper to take second, but a throwing error let Cooper move to third. He later scored off
Eli Benoit's RBI sacrifice fly to left to make it 2-0.
Tuskegee cut the lead in half in the third when it pushed its first run across to make it 2-1.
Spring Hill responded in its half of the third as it plated four runs on three hits and an error to go up 6-1.
The Tigers added a run in the fourth to trail 6-2, but the Badgers added four in the fourth, four in the fifth, and one in the sixth to secure the victory via run-rule.
The Badgers' bullpen went two innings, not allowing a runner to reach base, while striking out one.
Starting pitcher
Wyatt Brown picked up the win to improve to 2-0. He scattered four hits in five innings, giving up two runs while striking out five.
Cooper led all hitters with three hits (3-for-3). He tallied a run and an RBI in the process.
Jatnier Torres finished the night going 2-for-3 with two runs scored, and teammate
John Webb was 1-for-2 with a home run, three runs scored, two RBIs, and a walk.
Left fielder
Jaylen Jones was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs, and a run scored.
Spring Hill will face Tuskegee tomorrow for the doubleheader part of the series, with game one starting at 1 p.m.
