Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Swept at Auburn Montgomery

The Spring Hill College Softball team dropped both ends of a road double-header at Auburn Montgomery Wednesday afternoon, falling 2-0 in game one and 9-3 in game two. The Badgers sit at 8-11 overall but 3-0 in SIAC play heading into the SIAC Softball Crossover Tournament next week.

Game 1 – Auburn Montgomery 2, Spring Hill 0

Bethany Ahrens gave up just two unearned runs across six innings pitched in a 2-0 defeat to Auburn Montgomery in game one.

The only error committed by the Spring Hill defense was a costly one as, instead of an inning-ending groundout which would have seen Ahrens work out of a bases loaded jam, the error allowed two runs to score and put Spring Hill behind 2-0.

The Badgers had baserunners on second base on three separate occasions, the last of which was in the top of the fifth inning as the go-ahead run came to the plate, but Spring Hill was unable to get the clutch hit necessary to break the shutout as they'd go on to lose by the 2-0 score.

Game 2 – Auburn Montgomery 9, Spring Hill 3

Spring Hill fell behind 8-0 after two innings of play and could only claw back three runs in a late-game rally before losing 9-3.

Janci Aube was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Destiny Pierce was 1-for-3 with a 2-RBI double for the Badgers.

Spring Hill surrendered three runs in the first and five runs in the second, putting the Badgers in a big hole to climb out of. They got on the board in the third inning as Abigail Christ came around to score after a lead-off double to make it 8-1.

The Badgers got another two runs in the fourth inning, as Pierce came through with a two-out, two-RBI double to score Natalee Curry and Meadow Villar and make it 8-3.

That was all that Spring Hill could get offensively, however, as the Badgers would drop the second game 9-3.

Spring Hill now turns the page back to SIAC play as they prep for the SIAC Softball Crossover Tournament. The Tournament, which sees the Badgers play 7 games in three days, begins on March 10th with Spring Hill taking on Savannah State at 10 a.m. and Albany State at 3 p.m.
