Badgers Fall in Final Game of Series to Miles College

FAIRFIELD, Ala. – The Spring Hill College baseball team dropped its first conference series of the season when it fell to Miles College, 5-4, this afternoon on the road in the rubber game.  The Badgers are now 15-10 and 11-4 in the SIAC, while the Bears improve to 17-6 and 10-4.

Spring Hill has posted a 4-1 conference series record this season.

Trailing 1-0 after three innings, Spring Hill in the top of the fourth was able to break through as it tied the game on one hit. It started when Jaylen Jones was hit by a pitch, and John Webb walked to put runners on first and second. Both runners were able to advance 90 feet off Alex Roux's sacrifice bunt to the pitcher. Following a strikeout for the second out, George Bode's RBI single to right allowed Jones to score to the game at one before the inning ended.

With both teams going scoreless in the fifth, the Badgers took the lead in the sixth. Webb, who singled up the middle to lead off, then stole second, and a throwing error by the catcher allowed him to take third.  Andrew Juez reached first off, an error by the shortstop, which allowed Webb to give Spring Hill a 2-1 lead.

With two runners in scoring position in the seventh, Webb's RBI groundout to short scored Black to add an insurance run to make it 3-1. Down to its final out, Roux's RBI single to right scored Jones from third to push the lead to 4-1 before the inning ended.

Going into the bottom of the eighth up by three, the Bears rallied with four runs on four hits and an error to take a 5-4 lead.

The Badgers in the ninth got the tying run on when Webb singled to right, but a double play ball ended the game.

Reliever Alex Dicke took the loss to fall to 1-1 on the season. He gave up one run on a walk and a hit in two-thirds of an inning.

Starter Wyatt Brown allowed a run on three hits over three and a third innings.

Jones and Webb combined to go 4-for-8 with three runs scored, a double, and an RBI.

Roux, Bode, and Angel Rivera each finished with a hit. Roux and Bode tallied an RBI apiece.

Spring Hill is back on the road on Tuesday, March 17, when it travels to Louisiana to face ninth-ranked Loyola University, New Orleans.
