MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College baseball team opened the weekend series with a 6-3 conference win over visiting Albany State University tonight. The Badgers are 9-7 and 6-1 in the SIAC, while the Rams fall to 9-5 and 6-1.
Albany State wasted no time in the top of the first as it plated a run on a pair of hits to go up 1-0. The Badgers in their half responded when
Jordan Black singled with one out, then scored off
John Webb's two-run home run to left center to put Spring Hill up 2-1.
Spring Hill added a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth to push its lead to 4-1, but in the sixth, Albany State cut the lead to two off a solo home run.
The Badgers in the eighth pushed their lead to 6-2, but the Rams attempted to rally in the ninth as they pushed a run across, but that would be all they managed before falling 6-3.
Jatnier Torres led Spring Hill at the plate as he went 3-for-5 with a double, a pair of RBIs, and a run scored.
Webb finished the night 1-for-3 with a home run, a run scored, and two RBIs, while Black led the team in runs scored with two.
Reliever
Alex Dicke picked up the win (2-0) after going an inning and a third and allowing a run on a hit.
Starting pitcher
Garrett Lott finished the night on the mound, giving up four hits, a run, and seven strikeouts in four innings of work.
Both teams are back in action tomorrow for the doubleheader part of the series, with game one starting at noon central.
