MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College baseball team's late eighth-inning runs propel it to a 6-4 win over #11 the University of West Alabama tonight. The Badgers are now 8-7 on the season, while the Tigers drop to 12-2.
Following a scoreless first, Spring Hill took a 1-0 lead on a walk and a double in the bottom of the second.
The Badgers added to their lead in the fourth, with two outs,
Reggie Cooper singled and then took second on a wild pitch. He later moved to third on a second wild pitch. Jatneir Torres walked, which forced West Alabama to go to the bullpen. Now with runners on the corners,
Jordan Black doubled home both Cooper and Torres to make it 3-0. Black later came around to score off
Jaylen Jones's RBI single to left to push it to 4-0 before the inning ended.
West Alabama cut the lead to one when it scored three runs in the sixth and then tied it with a run in the seventh.
Down to their final four outs, Torres drew a two-out walk in the eighth and scored on a throwing error by the third baseman off of Black's single to put the Badgers up 5-4. Black was able to move to second on the error. Jones's single through the left side allowed Black to score to give Spring Hill some insurance and take a 6-4 lead into the ninth.
Reliever
Nathaniel Helton threw the final three innings to earn the win and improve to 3-1 on the year. He allowed two hits, a run, and struck out two.
Starting pitcher
Donovan Monsees allowed one hit over four innings, while striking out one.
Black and Jones combined, going 4-for-9 with four RBIs, a double, and two runs scored.

John Webb finished the game going 2-for-5, while
Angel Rivera,
Gavin Moran, and Cooper each tallied a hit.
Spring Hill is back home this weekend when it hosts conference foe Albany State University for a three-game series. Game one is slated to start on Friday at 5 p.m., with the doubleheader part of the series starting at noon on Saturday.
