Spring Hill Starts Strong but Falls to Allen, 75-59

MOBILE, Ala. — The Spring Hill College women's basketball team opened with a strong first quarter but couldn't maintain momentum in a 75-59 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference loss to the Allen University Yellow Jackets on Saturday afternoon at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.

Spring Hill (7-19, 5-18 SIAC) led after the opening period and remained competitive into the second quarter before Allen (16-8, 15-7 SIAC) used a decisive middle stretch to take control.

Jenice Adjessom led the Badgers with 13 points and eight rebounds, while Ta'Myla Allen recorded 10 points and 10 rebounds. Laurie Severe added eight points and Jordan Bowden chipped in eight off the bench.

Rapid Recap:

Spring Hill set the tone early, jumping out to a quick lead behind perimeter shooting and aggressive rebounding. A 3-pointer from Laurie Severe opened the scoring before Ta'Myla Allen and Allison Irby added baskets in the paint to help the Badgers build momentum.

Nicole Blanch knocked down two free throws, and Ta'Myla Allen connected from beyond the arc late in the quarter as Spring Hill held Allen to just eight points in the period and carried a 19-8 advantage into the second.

Allen responded with a strong run early in the second quarter, capitalizing on turnovers and converting at the free-throw line to chip away at the deficit. Despite a three-pointer from Adjessom and free throws from Blanch and Bowden to keep Spring Hill close, Allen's hot shooting and transition scoring allowed the Yellow Jackets to surge ahead.

The Badgers briefly regained the lead on an Adjessom three-pointer and an inside basket from Ella Vallas, but Allen closed the half on a push to take a 37-31 lead into the break.

Spring Hill looked to rally after halftime with interior baskets from Allen and Adjessom and a mid-range jumper from Severe. The Badgers trimmed the deficit to five early in the period, but Allen answered with a sustained scoring stretch fueled by fast-break opportunities and perimeter shooting.

Despite continued effort from Bowden and Adjessom, the Yellow Jackets extended their advantage to double digits and led 59-45 heading into the final quarter.

Spring Hill continued to battle in the final period, getting baskets from Adjessom and Bowden along with free throws from Severe. A late jumper from Blanch and a three-pointer from Irby highlighted the closing minutes as the Badgers kept competing down the stretch.

Allen maintained control with timely baskets and free throws, securing the 75-59 final.
