JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Spring Hill College baseball team opened up its weekend conference series with a 7-6 win at Edward Waters University this evening. The Badgers improve to 6-6 and 4-0 in the SIAC as the Tigers fall to 5-7 and 1-3.
Spring Hill took a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the third, but the lead did not last long as the Tigers plated four runs on four hits to go up 5-4.
The Badgers in the fourth responded, and it started when
Ethan Davis walked. Following a strikeout, he then came around to score off of
Robby Lopez's RBI double to tie the game at five.
Reggie Cooper put Spring Hill back in front with his RBI single to score Lopez to make it 6-5.
The Tigers tied the game in the sixth off a walk, a stolen base, and a pair of errors.
Spring Hill in the eighth was able to retake the lead, and it started when
Weston Kirk was hit by the pitch to open the inning. Following a strikeout for the first out, Kirk stole second and then came around to score off of
Jaylen Jones's RBI single to right field to put the Badgers up 7-6.
Edward Waters looked to rally in the bottom of the ninth when it got the tying run on, but the Badger bullpen was able to close the door and lock down the win.
Jordan Black,
John Webb, and Jones each went yard for Spring Hill. Jones finished the night going 2-for-4 with a team-high three RBIs, while scoring a run.
Lopez and Cooper each tallied two hits apiece, with Lopez recording the team's only double.
Badger Reliever
Garrett Lott picked up the win (1-1). The senior threw three and a third scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out a game-high four.
Both teams are back in action tomorrow for the doubleheader part of the series, with game one starting at 12 p.m. CT.
