MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College softball team posted runs early and never trailed in the series finale against the Henderson State University Reddies. The Badgers won the early Saturday contest 5-2 at Murray Field.
Bethany Ahrens led the way at the plate with a 2-for-2 effort and an RBI.
Meredith Fontenot collected two RBIs and a stolen base ona 1-for-4 effort, while
Janci Aube scored a pair of runs.
Ahrens also handled business in the circle with eight strikeouts over seven innings. She also allowed three hits, three walks, and two earned runs.
Meadow Villar struck first with a single to centerfield, enabling Aube to score. Ahrens followed with a single to left, scoring Fontenot, and putting the Badgers up 2-0.
After the Reddies posted a run in the third to cut the lead to 2-1, Spring Hill responded in the fourth with Fontenot hitting a two-RBI single to left, knocking in Aube and
Oscha Carter. To push the lead to 4-1.
HSU posted one more run in the fifth, making the score 4-2; however, in the bottom of the inning, Carter drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring
Natalee Curry to reach the 5-2 final score.
Spring Hill returns to action on Tuesday at 2 p.m. on the road against the University of Montevallo (Ala.) Falcons.
