COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Spring Hill College baseball team swept a conference doubleheader against Benedict College today. The Badgers took game one 7-6 and then capped off the day with a 12-7 win in game two.
Spring Hill is now 5-6 and 3-0 in the SIAC, while the Tigers are 0-3 and 0-3 in the conference.
Spring Hill is back in action next weekend when it travels to Florida to face SIAC foe Edward Waters in a three-game series. Game one is on Friday at 5 p.m. ET.
Game 1: Spring Hill 7, Benedict 6
The Badgers wasted no time getting on the board in the bottom of the first.
Angel Rivera led off with a single and then moved to second with one out when
Jordan Black singled to left. Rivera later scored to make it 1-0 when
John Webb singled to left. Black moved to second on the play. Following a strikeout,
Ethan Davis's two-run single to center plated both Black and Webb to push the lead to 3-0.
Spring Hill added three more runs off a three-run home run from Black in the top of the second that scored
Reggie Cooper and
Jatnier Torres to make it 6-0.
Benedict was able to cut the lead in half when it pushed three runs across in the bottom of the third.
The Badgers added a run in the sixth, while the Tigers added one in the seventh to make it 7-4.
The Tigers attempted to rally in the ninth when they pushed two runs across to make it 7-6, but that is all they would get.
Webb finished the game 2-for-2 with four RBIs, two runs scored, and a home run.

Andrew Juez, Davis, and
Robby Lopez each tallied two hits.
Starting pitcher
Wyatt Brown went the distance to earn the win. He threw a complete game, while striking out 12 and allowing nine hits and six runs.
Game 2: Spring Hill 12, Benedict 8 - 7 inn.
After a scoreless first inning for both teams, Spring Hill took a 3-0 in the top of the second off of
Jaylen Jones' three-run home run that scored Juez and Davis.
The Badgers added five runs in the top of the third. It started when they loaded the bases. Jones' RBI single to third scored both Torres and Webb to make it 5-0 with two outs. With runners now on first and second, Lopez blasted a home run down the left field line to score Juez and Jones to make it 8-0 before the inning ended.
Spring Hill added a run in the fourth to go up 9-0, but in the bottom half, Benedict added three runs of its own to make it 9-3.
The Tigers added two more runs in the fifth to cut the lead to four.
The Badgers added two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to go up 12-5, but the Tigers attempted to rally as they scored three in the ninth to fall 12-8.
Jones and Lopez combined for 4-for-8 with eight RBIs, three runs scored, and two home runs.
Rivera, Torres, and Black each finished with two hits and four runs scored between the three.
Nathaniel Helton earned the win on the mound as he threw all seven innings, allowing eight runs on seven hits while striking out seven.
