MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College baseball team picked up its second straight win with a 12-2 run-rule win over visiting Auburn University at Montgomery this afternoon. The Badgers are now 2-6 on the season, while the Warhawks drop to 3-5.
Following a scoreless top of the first for the Warhawks, Spring Hill wasted no time getting on the board in its half of the inning.
Alex Roux got things rolling when he singled through the left side and later moved up 90 feet when
Jatnier Torres was plunked. The Badgers then loaded the bases when
Jordan Black singled up the middle.
John Webb kept things moving when he cleared the bases when he doubled down the left field line to make it 3-0. AUM was able to record its first out of the inning, but a wild pitch on the next at-bat allowed Webb to take third. He then later scored on an RBI groundout to first from
Angel Rivera to make it 4-0 before the inning ended.
Spring Hill added another four runs on three hits in the second to push its lead to 8-0.
AUM was able to get one of the runs back in the top of the third off a one-out sacrifice fly to right to make it 8-1. The Badgers in the next inning got the run back and more as they plated three runs to go up 11-1.
The Warhawks added another run in the fifth to cut the lead to 11-2, but in the bottom of the seventh,
Reggie Cooper's double scored
Michael Singleton to secure a run-rule victory.
Spring Hill tallied 12 hits to the Warhawks seven, with five of the 12 being doubles.
Badger starting pitcher
Donovan Monsees picked up the win (1-1). The junior went four and a third innings pitched, allowing two runs on three hits and two strikeouts.
Roux, Black, and Webb each tallied three hits, with Webb tallying two doubles. Webb led the team in RBIs with six, while Black finished with three RBIs of his own. Roux registered three runs scored along with Black.
Spring Hills heads to Columbia, South Carolina, this Saturday and Sunday to open up SIAC action when it faces Benedict College in a three-game series. Saturday game one of the doubleheader starts at noon Eastern.
