Hayes Leads Badgers Past Mississippi Christian, 3-1

MOBILE, Ala. — The Spring Hill College volleyball team overcame a first-set setback Tuesday night, rallying for a 3-1 victory over Mississippi Christian University at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.

The Badgers (13-7, 11-0 SIAC) dropped the opening set 25-19 before responding with three consecutive wins, taking the second set 25-20, the third 25-21 and the fourth 25-14.

Claire Hayes led the Badgers offensively with a match-high 20 kills while hitting .366 for the night. She added three blocks and finished with a team-high 22 points.

Spring Hill found its rhythm after the opening set, hitting .295 in the second before taking control late. The Badgers closed the fourth set with a .333 hitting percentage, finishing the match with 57 kills and a .224 team hitting percentage.

Quinn Thurman and Samaya Hennessy each added eight kills, while Bailey Bevolo also recorded eight kills and three blocks. Reece Varden chipped in four kills while hitting .667.

Cassie Creech directed the Spring Hill attack with 31 assists, while Lily Floyd added six assists. Ashlyn Whiteside finished with 20 digs and five assists, while Creech added 15 digs. Hennessy recorded 12 digs and Thurman finished with 11.

The Badgers also held advantages in assists and digs, recording 47 assists and 74 digs compared to Mississippi Christian's 38 assists and 58 digs.

Spring Hill returns to action Thursday, traveling to Tuskegee University for a 5 p.m. SIAC matchup.
