Spring Hill Handed an 84-76 Loss by Miles

MOBILE, Ala. – A big third quarter from the Miles College Golden Bears provided the separation needed to defeat the Spring Hill College women's basketball team. The Badgers took an 84-76 loss Monday night in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action. 

Following the loss, SHC sits 6-12 overall and 4-11 in SIAC play, while Miles improves to 16-3 on the season and 14-1 in the conference. 

Rapid Recap: 

The teams battled evenly early before Miles College opened a 14-9 lead following a tip-in from Tawana Nevels. However, Allison Irby quickly cut into the advantage with a three-pointer seconds later to move the score to 14-12. SHC briefly took an 18-16 lead after a three from Libby Geisler with 1:33, but the Golden Bears used a three from Samarian Franklin to take a 19-18 lead after the first quarter. 

Miles opened a five-point lead with 6:51 in the second at 29-24, but the Badgers battled back to reclaim the advantage after a layup from Irby at 5:40 to move the score to 30-29. Unfortunately, the Golden Bears regained control and opened an eight-point lead, but SHC battled all the way back to tie the game 41-41 at the half, following a shot from Jenice Adjessom with one second left.

The visiting Golden Bears took control in the third. Although the Badgers led 48-47 with 5:19 to go in the period, Miles ended the quarter on a 13-2 run to take a 60-50 advantage to the fourth. 

Miles's lead grew to 22 points with 6:24 in the fourth. SHC whittled the lead down to seven points with a minute to go, following a three from Irby. The Golden Bears went on to collect an 84-76 road win. 

Notes and Numbers: 

- Allison Irby provided a standout performance with 24 points along with six rebounds. 
- Jenice Adjessom posted her first double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 assists alongside seven rebounds and two steals. 
- Ta'myla Allen added 13 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals.  
- The Badgers finished 50.8 percent (30-of-59) from the floor, 34.5 percent (10-of-29) from beyond the arc, and 75 percent (6-of-8) from the free throw line.
