Badgers Fall in Road Matchup at Tuskegee

TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College women's basketball team put together a strong second half, but a slow start by the Badgers aided the Tuskegee University Golden Tigers in a 69-58 victory Wednesday night in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action in the James Center Arena.

Tuskegee opened with a 7-0 run before Libby Geisler connected on a three-pointer to get the Badgers on the board with 4:31 on the first quarter clock. TU went on to lead by 11 on a pair of occasions in the period, including in the end, after a three from Morgan Jones with 18 seconds left extended the lead to 17-6. 

SHC briefly got the lead down to seven points after free throws from Jenice Adjessom and Laurie Severe moved the tally to 17-10 with 9:02 on the clock. However, a powerful effort by the Golden Tigers saw the home team go up by 21 with 2:47 on the clock before settling on a 36-18 halftime lead. 

The Golden Tigers maintained a strong lead throughout the third quarter and led by as much as 25 points with 5:33 to go. Spring Hill finished the quarter down by 19 when Kae'la Mitchell hit a layup with two seconds left to give Tuskegee a 57-38 lead heading to the fourth. 

In the final quarter, the Badgers battled to cut the lead down to seven with 2:35 to go when a layup from Madison Dowling moved the score to 63-56. The margin reached seven points just seconds later with a layup from Ta'Myla Allen to make the score 65-58. TU scored the final four points of the game to put the contest away and walk away with a 69-58 win.  

Notes and Numbers:

- Nicole Blanch finished with a team-leading 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the floor and a 4-of-5 effort from the three-point line. 
- Libby Geisler also reached double figures with 10 points alongside a pair of rebounds, two assists, and a steal. 
- As a team, the Badgers shot 40.4 percent (21-of-52) from the floor, 47.4 percent (9-of-19) from three, and 70 percent (7-of-10) from the free throw line. 
- Despite the loss, the Spring Hill bench dominated and outscored the Tuskegee bench 32-9.
