MOBILE, Ala. – After leading the Badgers to a historic first-ever appearance in the Gulf South Conference (GSC) tournament, Spring Hill women's soccer head coach
Samantha Thomsit previewed the 2025 season.
How has the team's preseason been?
"Preseason has been a rewarding challenge; we have pushed the girls hard in the small window of time we have had and the response and attitude from the players has been extremely positive. They are highly motivated and ready to start the season. We had a good test against a Division-I opponent for our first match up in the preseason and we were able to take many positives out of the game and evaluate the areas we need to develop in. Our second game in the preseason gave us an opportunity to try players in different positions, grow in confidence and continue to evaluate the areas of development as we move forward into regular season."
Coming off a historic season, what's the mindset going into this year?
"Like I mentioned before the players are more motivated than ever. They have set higher standards every year and this year is no different, we want to achieve more as team and as program moving forward."
What are you seeing from the newcomers?
"The newcomers are bringing quality and depth to the squad and throughout the year you will see some of those newcomers start and others be impact players off the bench. We are excited to see them make their mark on this Spring Hill program."
Which returners are you looking to lead the team?
"I am looking for the entire senior class to lead this team. There is a number of players that have now been with me for four years and have an understanding of the level of play and have the talent and experience to now be the dominant leaders on this team."
Are there any matches you're looking forward to most?
"First game of course! We are excited just to get the ball rolling and see what we are made of. "
How has assistant coach Keanan Ainge been helping you in his first season?
"Keanan has made a good initial impact on the team. It's great to get a fresh set of eyes, opinions and voice on the field and the team respond well to his coaching points. He has also added a lot of value in our goalkeeping department and will continue to work closely to develop and build our last line of defense."
