Hinton Breaks Home Run Record; Badgers Advance to SIAC Championship

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Spring Hill College softball team won three straight games to climb the ladder and advance to the SIAC championship game on Tuesday at the South Commons Softball Complex.

Spring Hill 3, Tuskegee 2
Emma Curry (W: 9-7); Monica Rose (L: 15-4)  


A late surge in the sixth inning lifted Spring Hill (29-21, 18-4 SIAC) to a 3-2 win over top-seeded Tuskegee (27-8, 20-2 SIAC).

In the top of the first inning, Rycca Hinton launched a solo home run to give the Badgers an early lead. Her homer broke both the SHC single season and career home run records.

Tuskegee answered in the fifth with a two-run home run to take a 2-1 advantage.

Bethany Ahrens delivered in the sixth with a two-run homer of her own that sealed the 3-2 victory for SHC.

Emma Curry (9-7) threw her ninth complete game of the season, allowing only seven hits.

SHC continued its momentum in the second game, capitalizing with runners on base.

Hinton led the offense, going 2-for-3 including an RBI single that helped secure the win. Jesslyn Gordon contributed to the scoring with an RBI triple in the fourth inning. 

Amanda Glowacki drew her 15th walk of the season in the first inning, allowing Destiny Pierce to cross home.

Leighanna Turk (8-8) turned in another specular postseason performance, striking out two in the contest.

Spring Hill 9, Albany State 6
Emma Curry (W: 10-6); Romona McLeod (L: 4-4)


McKenzie King led the team, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBIs against the Golden Rams.

Gordon batted in the first run of the game before scoring another in the opening frame, giving Spring Hill an early 2-0 lead. Albany State responded with three runs in the third.

Glowacki tied the game in the fourth inning with an RBI single. Hinton built on her historic day with a two-run shot in the fourth inning, extending the lead to 5-3.

King capped off the scoring run in the fifth with an RBI single. ASU closed the gap with a pair of runs in the sixth, but was unable to overcome the Badger lead.

Emma Curry (10-6) started in the circle, striking out one and only allowing two earned runs in her 5.0 innings of work. Leighanna Turk closed the game giving up only three hits in her 2.0 innings.
