Badgers Win Back-To-Back SIAC Championships

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Spring Hill College softball team secured its third SIAC Championship title on Wednesday with a pair of wins against Fort Valley State at the South Commons Softball Complex.

Spring Hill (31-21, 18-4 SIAC) opened the first game strong against Fort Valley State (24-22, 15-9 SIAC).

Offensively, Rycca Hinton sparked the offense with a two-run shot. Later that inning, Natalee Curry added an RBI single to keep the momentum going.

In the fifth inning, Kayla Coley-Drayton capitalized on a FVSU error, extending the lead 7-1. The Wildcats answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to cut into the deficit.

Jena Pacheco delivered multiple runs, securing four RBIs, including a sacrifice fly that sealed the 9-3 victory.

Leighanna Turk (9-8) threw her ninth complete game of the season, striking out seven.

In the deciding game, seven Badgers recorded a hit in a balanced offensive effort.

Spring Hill struck early again, with Jesslyn Gordon, Destiny Pierce and Abigail Christ driving in runs in the first two innings.

The Wildcats tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the fourth inning. The Badgers responded with five unanswered runs over the next two innings.

Amanda Glowacki and Hinton each drove in runs, and Taylor Pittman drew a bases-loaded walk to plate another. Christ capped off the rally with an RBI double to make it 8-3.

The Wildcats added one run in the seventh inning but it wasn't enough, as the Badgers clinched back-to-back SIAC championships.

Emma Curry pitched the first 3.0 innings, striking out one. Leighanna Turk (10-8) made her second appearance in the day, closing the game with one strike out and allowing four hits over 4.0 innings.
