DAPHNE, Ala.- The Spring Hill College softball team dominated the United States Sports Academy (USSA) on Tuesday, completing the season sweep with two convincing wins.
Spring Hill 5, USSA 1
Leighanna Turk (W: 7-7); Ryleigh Merritt (L: 4-20)
In the first game, Spring Hill (25-18, 18-4 SIAC) took control early, scoring three runs in the third inning to pull ahead of the US Sports Academy (7-32)
Rycca Hinton and Jesslyn Gordon each drove in a run with back-to-back RBI singles. Later in the inning, Natalee Curry brought home Destiny Pierce to cap off the scoring run.
Gordon and Pierce extended the Badger lead in the fifth and seventh innings to secure the victory.
Offensively, Abigail Christ had a strong 1-for-2 performance, including her second double of the season.
Leighanna Turk (7-7) pitched a strong game, sitting down four while allowing just one run.
Spring Hill 14, USSA 4
Rycca Hinton (W: 1-3); Desiree Denmark (L: 2-7)
In the second game, SHC's bats exploded for 10 hits, marking the team's 12th game with double-digit hits this season.
Offensively, Cat McCully went 2-for-2, including two walks in her four plate appearances. Hinton led the team with three RBIs, two of which came off a single in the fifth inning.
Gordon, Jena Pacheco, McKenzie King and Oscha Carter each drove in multiple runs, accounting for eight of the Badgers' 14 RBIs. Curry added her first triple of the season as she showed off her speed in the first inning.
In the circle, Hinton (1-3) made her sixth start, allowing only three hits and striking out six in her 4.0 innings of work. Lauren Glass finished the game while giving up only one hit.
