MOBILE, Ala. – Spring Hill College Athletic Director Joe Niland has removed the interim tag and named Tony Marriel the head coach of SHC men's soccer.
 
Marriel joined the coaching staff in 2024 as an assistant coach and helped lead the Badgers to the Gulf South Conference tournament semifinal in his first season. His focus was developing and coaching the Spring Hill goalkeeping staff.

Hailing from his native Brazil, Marriel joined the Badger Men's Soccer program from Southern States Soccer in Hattiesburg, Miss., where he was the academy goalkeeper coach, academy boys' and girls' coach and goalkeeper coach of the Southern States Stars, which played in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL).
 
During his time with Southern States, he also served as the goalkeeper coach and assistant coach of Southern States Stars. As the assistant coach, he helped Head Coach Carl Reynolds lead the club to a 2024 US Open Cup bid, NPSL Elite Eight, Gulf Coast Conference Tournament Championship and Regular Season Championship with an 11-2-1 record in 2023.
 
In 2022, the club (11-3) became the first in U.S. history to achieve a 3rd-round US Open Cup appearance in its inaugural season. The squad (11-3) was a NPSL Gulf Coast Conference finalist that same year.

The year prior, he also helped lead the team to a NPSL Gulf Coast Conference Tournament Championship and an 11-3-1 record.

In 2012, Tony accepted the invitation to work with the OCALA STAMPED as a goalkeeper coach and assistant coach, where he also helped Coach Roberts lead the team to three-consecutive Southern Conference and Regional Conference championships.

His professional playing career was spent with Worcester Wildfire pro soccer in the USISL league, where he played started between the posts for three-straight years. After retiring, Marriel took the baton and became the goalkeeper/assistant coach. He later served as interim head coach of the club.
 
In the off season, Marriel coached in the Minor Indoor Soccer Arena for Habcats Indoor Soccer. In his first year, the Habcats team achieved a championship.
 
Marriel also coached at Worcester State College, leading the women's team to an 11-3-3 record in his first season in a very competitive MASCAC conference. He led the team to the conference final four.
