SHC Splits Miles Doubleheader

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Spring Hill College baseball team split Monday's SIAC doubleheader with Miles at Rickwood Field.
 
Miles 5, Spring Hill 4
Jaelyn Rhynes (W: 6-0); Camden Matthews (S: 7); Miles Justin (L: 0-2)
 
Jack Taylor opened scoring with an RBI double to left, followed by an RBI single from AJ Swader in the opening frame. The Golden Bears (15-8-1, 10-3 SIAC) responded in the second with a home run to make it a 2-1 game.
 
Miles built on its lead with a three-run third inning. The Badgers (17-9, 12-2 SIAC) answered when Swader knocked an RBI triple in the fifth and Nick Hunter tied the game, 4-4, with an RBI single in the sixth.
 
Spring Hill fell behind again in the sixth, when the Golden Bears put a well-placed bunt into play and scored a single run. Miles held on to defeat SHC, 5-4, in the first game.
 
Michael Racobaldo got the start for the Badgers and recorded four strikeouts in 5.0 innings. Miles Justin (0-2) suffered the loss after throwing 2.0 scoreless innings and walking two. Garrett Lott closed the game with a hitless inning.

The Badgers bounced back with an absolute dismantling of the Golden Bears in game two. Spring Hill scored 23 unanswered runs through the fifth inning and handed Miles a 23-2 loss to finish the day.
 
Highlights included a three-run homer from Seth Williams to open scoring in the first and a two-run homer from Jack Taylor in the third.
 
In total, eight of the nine Badgers in the lineup recorded at least one hit. Parker Serio recorded a pair of doubles while Taylor, Swader, Jackson Bell and Reggie Cooper all tallied one. Bryce Anderson also hit a triple to add to the commanding victory.
 
Korey Bunselmeyer (5-1) earned the win with four strikeouts, three walks and a single run on three hits in 5.0 innings of work.
