Badgers Split SIAC Opener

MOBILE, Ala. - The Spring Hill College Softball team opened up SIAC action splitting Saturday's doubleheader with Miles.
 
GAME ONE | Spring Hill 6, Miles 2
Legihanna Turk (W: 1-3); Desalynn Nesbitt (L: 0-3)
 
Miles (1-12, 1-1 SIAC) came to Murray Field searching for their first win of the season. Spring Hill (3-11, 1-1 SIAC) trailed 2-0 as the Golden Bears went up by two scores in the top of the first inning.
 
Offensively, the Badgers took the lead in their first plate appearance. Destiny Pierce got Spring Hill on the board with an RBI double. Later, Pierce capitalized on a Miles error to score.
 
Taylor Pittman scored on a bases-loaded hit by pitch. Pierce knocked a two-run double in the second. Pittman capped off the scoring run and secured the 6-2 victory with a sacrifice to center field.
 
Leighanna Turk (1-3) earned her first win with her second complete game of the season, recording a season-high seven strikeouts.
 
GAME TWO | Miles 9, Spring Hill 3
Shakayla Terry (W:1-2); Rycca Hinton (L: 0-3)
 
In the second game, Miles opened scoring with five runs across the fifth and sixth. The Badgers started a comeback effort in the sixth with an RBI double by Gordon and a two-run double from McKenzie King.
 
Hinton (0-3) threw 5.1 innings, recording six strikeouts and only one walk. Lauren Glass came in relief and struck out two. Emma Curry closed the game for the Badgers.
