MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College women's basketball team fell in a closely-contested season opener to West Alabama, 75-69, at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center on Friday.

After opening the game with an 18-17 lead through the first quarter, the Badgers (0-1) and Tigers (1-0) were neck-and-neck through the first half. Spring Hill held a slight edge at the halftime break, 33-32.

West Alabama exploded for 28 points in the third period and swung the momentum back in its favor. SHC rallied and outscored UWA in the fourth quarter (19-16) but fell just short and suffered the 75-69 loss.

Ella Vallas led the Badgers with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting and added four rebounds.

- SHC scored 19 points off the bench and 20 points off turnovers while collecting 28 rebounds.
